ACADEMICS

To ensure academic excellence,
Casas Christian School maintains class sizes of no more than 20 students,
employs state certified teachers, provides a comprehensive curriculum, and
administers the Stanford Achievement Test to monitor instructional progress.
School hours for grades 6-8 are 8:00 am - 3:00 pm.
"CORE" TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
CCS is a traditional Middle
School in that students change classes throughout the day studying under
certified specialist teachers. However, CCS believes that 6th - 8th
grade students learn more effectively if they have a "core" teacher whose
class they attend three periods each day. This "core" teacher
instructs them in Language Arts, History/Social Studies, and Bible. By
organizing each student's day in this fashion, the "core" teacher can better
assess each student's academic, social, and spiritual needs. Each
Middle School student attends seven periods a day.

ELECTIVES
CCS believes that the
Middle School years are an important time for students to investigate a
broad range of subjects to determine their passions and interests.
Therefore, CCS provides Middle School students many elective choices to
study during their seventh period of the day.

ACADEMIC HONORS
Students are encouraged to
achieve academic excellence. Middle School students who
attain a grade point average of 3.50 or better will be placed on the Honor
Roll at the end of each quarter. Students attaining a 4.0 will be
placed on the Principal's List. Middle School students are eligible
for induction into the National Junior Honor Society.
STUDENT LIFE
At Casas Christian School,
students are provided with many opportunities to participate in
activities that develop them intellectually, socially, physically, and
spiritually.
|
The Middle School students
function as CCS student leaders. They are encouraged to act as
role models for the elementary students and to recognize the unique
opportunity they have to act out God's love in view of the younger
children. The 6th, 7th, and 8th grades elect a Student Government
that assumes the responsibility for creating student activities for the
entire school, including school spirit weeks and service projects.
Middle School students are
also selected for induction into the
National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) each year. The NJHS members
provide peer tutoring services and participate in several mission
projects during the year. Both Student Government leaders and NJHS
members participate in leadership training workshops during the school
year.
The Middle School students
participate in competitive sports through the Tucson Independent
Athletic League (TIAL). They play basketball, volleyball, soccer,
softball, and flag football. Students also function as school
reporters, writing the student newspaper. Others serve on drama
teams presenting skits in Chapel for the younger students and performing
plays at various times of the year. The Middle School Choir and
Orchestra perform regularly. Each Middle School grade goes on a special trip that
encourages bonding, learning, and/or mission and outreach.
CCS students also have the
opportunity to connect with Casas Church's Middle School Ministry by
participating in Crossroads, a Sunday morning program with a small group
focus. Also, there are weekend retreats and various social
activities available through the ministry.

MENTORING PROGRAM
Casas Christian School operates a Mentoring Program. This program connects new
school families with a family that has been attending the school for at
least a year. The purpose of the program is to ensure that all new
students and their families have the opportunity to meet and bond with
another school family prior to the start of the new school year.
Forms for participating in the program are included with the Admission
Application. |
